If you have a question about Itsnoprob WordPress blogs and WordPress web sites that is not answered here, please do not hesitate to get in touch. Question: I like one of the template designs but I need changes to meet the requirements of my project? We are not template sellers or resellers and we expect clients to require a design that meets their particular requirements in terms of design and function. Obviously, if we can use an existing template as the basis for a client’s project, this is likely to simplify the development process and keep costs to a minimum. |
Question: I want different menu options and ‘blocks’ on the right-hand side of my WordPress blog to the ones that you have on this site? Is this a problem?
No. This is part of the beauty of WordPress. You get to decide which blocks or ‘widgets’ should appear on your blog.
Question: How will my web blog/site be built?
In our experience, no two projects are the same, but the web development process will usually involve the following steps:
-
Definition of the client’s requirements in terms of both design – how the web site will look – and functionality – what the site is intended to do.
-
Work on the site’s design. This will usually be done on Itsnoprob’s web space. When the design is agreed, WordPress with the agreed design will be installed either on the client’s existing hosting package – usually overriding any existing site – or on new hosting that we set up on the client’s behalf.
-
Installation and testing of required plug-ins (see below)
-
Depending on the client’s level of knowledge and expertise, initial web site content including required menus, etc. may be published by Itsnoprob
-
Again depending on the complexity of the project and the level of client expertise, training in web site management may be required
Question: What are WordPress ‘plug-ins’?
Plug-ins are one of the great strengths of WordPress, although caution needs to be exericsed in both their selection and implementation.
Plug-ins are, in simple terms, pieces of software, specifically designed for integration within WordPress, that expand WordPress’ functionality – what the web blog or web site can do. There is a great variety of plug-ins, both free and commercial, and they can be as simple as, for example, providing the client’s site with a more advanced editor than the one that comes by default with WordPress or far more sophisticated such as enabling the WordPress site to effectively sell and receive online payments for digital products.
Question: What are the requirements for hosting WordPress
Question: How do I update my WordPress site?
WordPress is designed for ease of use . That’s why it’s the choice of millions of bloggers around the world, whose focus is on publishing content quickly and easily without having to learn the intricacies of web design.
Your WordPress site is managed by an online Control Panel, giving you access wherever you have an Internet connection.
The Editor available for WordPress is very simple to use. If you want to build a web site like Amazon then WordPress isn’t the system for you. But if you want a straightforward way to publish online content then it certainly merits your consideration.
The Editor can be used in ‘Visual’ mode – effectively as a wordprocessor – or, if you have some knowledge of HTML, HTML coding can be entered as required.
Images can easily be uploaded and inserted into pages and blogs as required.
Question: What level of computer skills are required for effective management of a WordPress site?
WordPress software was originally designed specifically for bloggers rather than as a web design tool, so advanced computer skills are certainly not required to get presentable results. If they were, WordPress would not be used around the globe by the number of users that it is.
As with any software, though, there is a learning curve and practice and patience will be required initially.
Some knowledge of HTML is useful, although not essential, as it will allow the fine tuning of the positioining and appearance of your web page contents.
Question: Can I add or delete WordPress pages and menu items?
Yes, very easily.
This is another of the strengths of WordPress. You can easily add, delete or amend web pages and get them to automatically appear as main or sub-menu items, or indeed, not be included within the menu structure at all. The structure of your web site is in your hands – no need for the time and expense of calling in a web designer.
Question: Can I damage the design of a WordPress site by adding or amending content?
You cannot damage the design structure/style of your WordPress site by adding or deleting pages or by amending content using the WordPress online Editor.
You do need to ensure, though, that you don’t change the template files that control the fundamental appearance and layout of your site.
Question: How are images uploaded and inserted into WordPress pages or posts?
Images can be uploaded directly to the Media section of your online Control Panel, resized, if required, given a caption and mouseoever text and alignment defined.
It’s best if if your images are roughly the right width and height before uploading to your WordPress site as this will minimise the time it takes for them to be presented to your site visitors as well as making best use of your server space. But, with the widespread adoption of broadband, this is a far less critical issue than formerly.
Question: Can other media such as video be included within WordPress content?
Yes.
Question: Can Google Analytics tracking be applied to a WordPress site?
Certainly. You would just need to set up a Google Analytics account and provide us with the tracking code for your site.
