But I Haven't Got A Merchant Account!

If you haven't got and can't acquire a merchant account, you can still offer on-line credit card payment facilities by using a bureau who will provide them on your behalf.

Can I Accept Credit Card Payments On My Current Site?

Yes, most web sites can be adapted to incorporate on-line payment systems, avoiding the time and expense involved in redesigning a site from scratch.

For clients with a merchant account, Itsnoprob can 'E-commerce enable' a site with on- or off-line card payment processing via either a secure order form or a shopping cart.

What Is Needed To Offer On-Line Payments?

The following are the essentials for the automatic processing of payments on-line:

  • a merchant account or, more strictly, an Internet merchant account. (This is needed if you want to accept card payments directly without using a bureau service that is likely to charge higher fees) Most banks offer merchant account facilities although the granting of merchant account status is by no means guaranteed.

  • a secure method - whether an order form or a shopping cart - of gathering customer and credit card information

  • a 'payment gateway' that will handle the processing of the payment

An alternative to full on-line processing of credit card transactions is to manually process payments yourself off-line, using a console provided by your bank. In this case, a payment gateway isn't required.

Off-line processing saves on payment processing charges but is time consuming compared to the automated process provided by a payment service provider or payment gateway.

Do You Have To Offer Payment By Credit Card?

Yes, is the short answer!

About 95% of on-line consumer transactions are by credit card.

It is possible to run an on-line business without accepting credit cards but this is only really a viable option when your business does not depend to any great extent on impulse purchases. For most small businesses, being able to accept credit and debit card payments is essential

E-commerce, or electronic commerce, is the selling of goods and services over the Internet. This covers a wide range of different types of businesses from consumer retail sites to sites that focus on selling to other businesses.

E-commerce has grown rapidly over the last few years and this expansion is forecast to continue at possibly an even faster rate.
