Some of the principal things you need to consider before commissioining your web site project.

Thinking through your web site requirements, including ongoing site maintenance, before commissioning your project will pay dividends many times over:

  • development timescales and costs will be kept to a minimum
  • you will get the web site you want
  • your visitors will get a web site they are impressed by

Here are some of the principal things you should consider...

Hosting/domain - If yours is a project for a new web site, you will need to register an appropriate, available  domain name and have a hosting package that will effectively support Joomla content management software.

Do you want Itsnoprob to arrange hosting, as we recommend (see here >>) or will you acquire hosting for yourself?

What domain name and type (e.g. .co.uk, .org.uk, .com, etc.) do you want and is it available? We will be only to happy to help you with this.

If yours is a project for a 'replacement' web site - you already have a registered domain name and hosting in place - do you want to retain your existing hosting or transfer to a hosting account arranged by Itsnoprob? (again, see here >>)

Design considerations - How do you want your site to look and 'feel'? Have you perhaps corporate colours that you would like to be considered when your site template is designed? Have you a logo and 'strap line'? Have you seen web sites that impress you that will give us a visual guide as to your requirements? Do you want a formal 'corporate' feel or perhaps a site that conveys informality and a personal touch? What response do you want your web site to generate?

We obviously don't expect you to design your own web site in detail, but your thoughts as to the general design approach will be invaluable.

Web site structure - What will be the sections and 'hierarchy' - structure - of your web site? This can be amended and expanded over time using the content management software, but it is important to get the initial structure correct to keep development costs to a minimum. The structure of your site will obviously also influence web site menu options/navigation.

Initial web site content - What will be the initial content of your web site - content sufficient for your web site to go 'live' on the Net? Will you write the copy and provide appropriate graphics or will you need our assistance with this?

Training/ongoing web site management - What approach do you wish to take to the ongoing management and maintenance of your web site? This issue is often overlooked, but it needs to be considered at an early stage as a) it will influence the scope and nature of training required and b) if it is not addressed, your web site investment may be compromised.
