Personal 1 to 1 WordPress training at your home or office!   Printer friendly page

Get Up and Running with WordPress…

…is a one and a half day, hands-on course, delivered in your office or home, on a 1 to 1, personal basis, that will enable you to professionally set up and manage a WordPress site.

Training is available now in the West Midlands area.

Our training starts with a full day session, followed by a half day around – we would recommend – a week later, to enable clients to reflect on and consolidate their learning.

Participants will have access to a WordPress site installed on our hosting for 3 months in order to continue to practise and refine their skills as well as a range of recommended plugins dealing with:

  • content editing
  • search engine optimisation
  • contact forms
  • presentation of images
  • database backup
  • social media
  • Google Analytics
  • sitemap generation

INP Training assisted me to develop a functional WordPress website in under 2 days. They made the learning experience interesting and accessible. In under 2 days I now have a working knowledge of how to set up and develop a WordPress blog/website.

How do I update my WordPress site?   Printer friendly page

WordPress is designed for ease of use . That's why it's the choice of millions of bloggers around the world, whose focus is on publishing content quickly and easily without having to learn the intricacies of web design.

Your WordPress site is managed by an online Control Panel, available to you wherever you have an Internet connection.

The Editors available for WordPress are very simple to use. If you want to build a web site like Amazon then WordPress isn't the system for you. But if you want a straightforward way to publish online content then it certainly merits your active consideration.

Editors can typically be used in 'Visual' mode – effectively as a wordprocessor – or, if you have some knowledge of HTML, HTML coding can be entered as required.

Images can easily be uploaded and inserted into pages and blog postings as required.

What level of computer skills are required for effective management of a WordPress site?   Printer friendly page

WordPress software was originally designed specifically for bloggers rather than as a web design tool, so advanced computer skills are certainly not required to get presentable results. If they were, WordPress would not be used by millions of users around the globe.

As with any software, though, there is a learning curve and practice and patience will be required initially.

Some knowledge of HTML is useful, although not essential, as it will allow the fine tuning of both the positioning and appearance of your web page contents.

Can I add or delete WordPress pages and menu items?   Printer friendly page

Yes, very easily.

This is another of the strengths of WordPress. You can easily add, delete or amend web pages and get them to automatically appear as main or sub-menu items, or indeed, not be included within the menu structure at all. The structure of your web site is in your hands – no need for the time and expense of calling in a web designer.

How are images uploaded and inserted into WordPress pages or posts?   Printer friendly page

Images can be uploaded directly to the Media section of your online Control Panel, resized, if required, given a caption and mouseoever text and alignment defined.

It’s best if if your images are roughly the right width and height before uploading to your WordPress site as this will minimise the time it takes for them to be presented to your site visitors as well as making best use of your server space. But, with the widespread adoption of broadband, this is a far less critical issue than formerly.

Can I damage the design of a WordPress site by adding or amending content?   Printer friendly page

You cannot damage the design structure/style of your WordPress site by adding or deleting pages or by amending content using the WordPress online Editor.

You do need to ensure, though, that you don’t change the theme files that control the fundamental appearance and layout of your site.

WordPress is really excellent blogging and publishing software that makes an effective Internet presence available to all.

WordPress is designed for ease of use as you would expect, but the reality is that any content management system – however well designed – involves a learning curve, getting to grips with the quirks and idiosyncracies of the particular system. And WordPress is no different.

But time invested in mastering WordPress will reap rich rewards. And if you need our assistance in getting the maximum out of WordPress or in using it to best effect to achieve your particular objectives, please get in touch >>
